Multi-Flow Map Freebie For Weather Unit

Next week we will be talking about different kinds of weather and how weather effects our lives.  So I created a multi-flow map (one sided) to help the children understand what happens when we have certain kinds of weather.  I am going to start with rain.  The multi-flow map is the hardest Thinking Map for me to introduce to my students so I am going to start with this one and then we will add the other side (if you are not familiar with Thinking Maps go to and you can see what I am talking about).  I have posted  this map in my TpT store as a freebie.  I am not very tech savvy with the google doc thing so this is the best I could do.

100th Day of School!

Wow am I tired!!  I think the 100th day of school wiped me out!  The kids had a blast and we had a lot of fun counting to 100 and doing a whole bunch of 100 day activities.  We tried to hula hoop while counting to 100, jump rope 100 times and we even tried to stay quiet for 100 seconds ( I am sorry to say that we did not manage that one)! And of course The Zero Hero brought us a delicious 100 day snack.  I took a few pictures of some of the table activities that we did.  I am too tired to write more...only 80 days to go:)
Race to 100 - the students rolled 2 dice and colored that many numbers until they got to 100.

Fill in the Missing Number

Race to 100 and the star is a 100th Day wish
(if you could have 100 of anything what would it be).
100 dots with Bingo dabbers - this was a favorite!!

Phew! Decluttering is Hard Work!

Today after school I decided to tackle just one counter that I want to declutter.  I did a pretty good job but I could not believe how many times I ended up in another part of the room!  I was trying to focus one "that one counter" but all of a sudden I would realize that I was somewhere else, doing something else and I didn't even remember why I moved away from "that one counter".  Does anybody else have this problem when starting to declutter or organize an area of their room?  I did however, do a pretty good job of weeding things out that I no longer need and putting things back where they belong.  I forgot to bring my camera and take pictures though, so I will try to remember to take pics tomorrow.  Phew!  One down, many more to go!

Word Families

We have been working on word families in our classroom.  I wanted to share one of the ways that we build word families.  I found these letter necklaces from Dr. Jean ( I think she calls them letter vests).  If you click on the link you can print the large letters, cut them out and glue them to construction paper or cardstock and add a string.  The children put the letters on to make a word and then change the first letter to continue to make new words in the same word family.  This year I took pictures of the students when we did the -en family and I printed the pictures and put them on a ring.  I love using rings because I can hang them in the writing center and they are easy for the students to grab and flip through when they are looking for a word to write.  I put other things on rings too such as; student names, color words, abc's, and theme words.  The kiddos loved these pictures so much I am thinking of doing them for other word families too!

Clutter-Free Classroom Project Week 2

This is week two for The Clutter-Free Classroom Project.  If you haven't read about it yet, click on the picture to go to The Clutter-Free Classroom.  You will find all of the information there.  There are also great tips and freebies to help you out!

This week's Prompt was:
Share your plan for decluttering your classroom. Feel free to pick from any/all of the following questions or share your own ideas that relate the this week's topic.
So here are my thoughts so far:

The "stuff" that I decide I no longer have to have will be donated to other teachers who can use it or thrown away if it is not in good shape.

My rules for purging will be:

1. If it has seen its better day or broken, throw it out!
2. If I have not used it in over a year, donate to someone who can and will use it.
3. If it has ended up in the wrong place return it to its home.

I purged the first two items yesterday and I was so excited to get started!  I had an old bulletin board that I had intended on using for a "message Board" with my students but it never really worked like I wanted it to and  the board is getting old now and parts of the cork were flaking off so I threw it away.  I also got rid of a tricycle that has been been broken for two years and just sitting in the closet.  Our custodian keeps saying that maybe it can be fixed but after two years I decided to get rid of it!  I am so happy to no longer trip over that bike!!

The Clutter-Free Classroom Project: Week 1

The Clutter-Free Classroom Project is now starting, go to the link to join the Linky Party now.  This is week 1 and our first job was to take before pictures of the areas of our classroom that we want to organize and the four main walls of our room.  Here are the pictures that I took today.

This is where I spend most of my time, things that I use most often are on this counter.
Another cluttered counter!

We have a walk-thru closet between the two kindergarten rooms.  Everything ends up in there and it is getting a little messy!

Another shelf in the closet.

This is the inside of a large cabinet.  I would like to make better use of this space!

This is the other side of the large cabinet.  I tried to organize it this summer but it is hard to get to things in here because the shelves are really deep.

Here are the four walls of my room.

Let's Get Organized!

The Clutter-Free Classroom has a new project that is starting this week.  Click on the picture to go to the site and find out what it is all about!  I love organizing my classroom and I feel like there are definitely a few big projects that I have been putting off that I need to tackle!  I can't wait to get started!

Smartboard Activities with a Snowman Theme

Happy New Year!  When I get back to school we will begin a unit on snowmen and winter.  I just wanted to share some of the great resources on a site that I have talked about before, Smartboard Resources by Mrs. Sears.  This site is so good!  I use it all of the time and always find great activities that match what I am doing in my class.  Mrs. Sears has separated the activities by month so just scroll down to January and you will find the snowman/winter related activities. There are so many great things that if you are like me you will be on this site for a long time!!

My students love this song that I found on youtube, called Build a Snowman. It is from HarryKindergarten and they have many other cute songs (and educational songs)!

I know that some people have said that they cannot go to youtube on their school computers but if you have a school laptop that you can take home you can download the youtube videos straight to your computer by using a program like KeepVid or by adding the word "save" in front of "youtube" in the video's url. Then you can play the videos from your computer and not have to even go to youtube.

For example:  when you go to youtube to play the video look at the url in the web address bar at the top of the screen  it might look like this; - you would insert your cursor before the word youtube and type the word save so that it says and hit enter it will take you to another screen and walk you through downloading the video.  Hope this isn't too confusing, it really is pretty easy:)
