Ten Apples Up On Top Song

I discovered a new song on youtube this year while looking up new ideas for my apple unit.  I am sure some of you have already heard it and know how much fun it is but I wanted to share in case somebody out there hasn't heard it yet.  It is the book Ten Apples Up On Top sung by someone singing in the style of Jason Mraz's song "I'm Yours".  Here is the video.  It is so cute and my kids loved it so much last week that we played it over and over and it has been stuck in my head all weekend!  Enjoy!

Easy Things to Make for Not a Lot of Money

Over the summer I wanted to make things for my classroom that were fun and easy but also very useful.  I also didn't want to spend a lot of money.  Here are the things that I decided to make.  Most are very simple and do not take a lot of time. Now that I found out I have 29 kindergarten students coming tomorrow I am going to need a lot of things to keep them busy!!
Macaroni noodles dyed with food coloring and rubbing alcohol. I bought the neon food coloring for some interesting colors!

Gel bags made with hair gel and food coloring.  These were the most fun to make:)

Ten frames made with colorful popsicle sticks.  I bought the sticks already colored.

Salt for salt trays dyed with food coloring.  They look funny because I double bagged them so I wouldn't have salt spill out all over my car!  You just put a few drops of food coloring in and mix it around.  I think it will probably turn their fingers colors but oh well, it is pretty!

Click on this picture to go to the website for the directions on how to make this.  You use Ziploc bags and duct tape.  For me this was the hardest thing to make because I am a perfectionist and it drove me crazy!

I made a simple ABC matching game with clear spoons and white spoons. Just put the clear spoon on top of the white so they can see both letters.

Number Freebie!

I created this activity a while back and just now put it in my TpT store.  It is just a very simple activity but a good way for the students to see how numbers can be shown in different forms.  For example, on a ten frame or domino.  I left this activity in a word document so if you download it you can just go in and change the number in the middle to any number that you are working on in your classroom. Just click on the picture below to go grab it!  I hope you like it!  *I added one with two ten frames for teen numbers too!

My school district has decided to use EngageNY Mathematics next year and I was wondering if anyone else is using this program and if there is any advice you can give to me.  I am glancing through module 1 and I am already concerned about the amount of worksheets!  I am hoping to find some good ideas from teachers who have used this program in their classrooms and know some of the pitfalls to avoid.  Thank you!
